It's about motivating young minds and bodies to be the best that they can be!
Recreational vs. Competitive Dance Our school offers two types of programs.
A recreational program is offered to all students enrolled at SOSD. These classes
are structured toward a fun learning experience. Good attendance is vital during
the months of May, June and September due to the preparation of our recital.
Recreational dancers are not obligated to take any specific type or number of
classes. We have many talented recreational dancers who take several classes a
week, but do not wish to make the commitment it takes to compete. Students who
love to dance but are involved in several other extracurricular activities find that the
recreational program works for them.
Shannon O'Brien 'Dance Company' members are involved in a more intensive
program. This program is a HUGE commitment. Competition team or Company
members are required to attend classes all year. Jazz company dancers are
required to take ballet classes to ensure proper and adequate progression. All
dancers are encouraged to take ballet classes. These dancers are expected to
attend extra rehearsals throughout the year. SOSD company dancers must adhere
to a strict attendance policy. This means sacrifice on the part of the dancer and the
parent!
Class Observation Parents are invited to observe class during our "Peek Week" in
March. Look for exact dates for "Peek Week" 2005. Periodically we open the door to share our
progress with our families. We all enjoy showing our loved ones how hard we work.
